When you go to a standup comedy show one thing you can pretty much be sure of is that you're going to hear a lot of the same subject matter over over over and over...brace yourself for an onslaught of online dating jokes. Damon Millard is a true original voice. Going deep right out of the gate, Damon's stories build a strange world we can't quite wrap our heads around, but we're glad we're along for the ride. Damon says he possesses a power to "attracts weirdos," and then we jump from one bizarre moment to the next and as he tries to navigate his way through these awkward situations. We follow his journey from his roots as an impoverished kid in a trailer park, through the breakdown of his neighborhood during the covid-19 pandemic, struggles in his jobs as a bartender, video editor, and News Photo-journalist, being in a relationship with a famous TV actress that is falling apart and we hear his take on subjects never really discussed for humor: Nobody knows why we're alive, why were cavemen so bad at art, how to be cheap in such an expensive world. It's a fantastic expedition in search of something we never actually find, but believe me when I say you'll be glad you went. He is a stand out in standup. The hour will fly by and when the roller coaster slows down and finally stops you will know you experienced something different, something unique. He bends the rules of a little and the entire art form is better for it. You will forget the army of Tinder-joke-slinging comedians and Damon Millard you will remember.
